Young Lakes
Toulumne Meadows is the next big base in Yosemite other than the Valley. It gives you access to the 'High Country,' which is full of many diverse destinations. About 7 years ago, Erin and I worked at the Vogelsang trail camp for 2 months. We've made it back to the High Country at least once each summer since then.
Young Lakes is kinda out of the way, so we'd never gone near it on any past adventures. This year, we made it our sole destination. We drove and hiked Friday, explored on Saturday, and then hiked and drove back Sunday.
Not sure what our next pick is for 2009, but I can at least say that it will involve driving to Toulumne, and strapping on a heavy pack.
